a wise woman told me the other day that life was like a rosary. It is joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous.
True.
For those of you unfamiliar with the rosary, it is really just like an abacus. It is a string of beads that represent prayers that you say. The prayers are the Apostle’s Creed, the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Hail Holy Queen. While saying the prayers, you contemplate events in the Christ’s life. The events are called Mysteries and are grouped into categories. For much of the history of the rosary there were three categories, Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious. Pope John Paul II added one more group, the Luminous.
Joyful: The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Nativity, The Presentation, and the Finding of Jesus in the Temple.
Sorrowful: The Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning of Thorns, and The Crucifixion.
Glorious: The Ressurection, The Ascension, The Descent of the Holy Spirit, The Glorious Assumption (of the Virgin Mary), The Coronation (of the Virgin Mary)
Luminous: The Baptism of Our Lord, The Miracle at Cana, The Proclamation of the Word, The Transfiguration, and The Last Supper (the Institution of the Eucharist).

The fact that life is like the Rosary is part of what makes it such a beautiful prayer.
